Son Bhandar Caves, also known as Son Bhandar or Swarna Bhandar Caves, are a set of ancient rock-cut caves located in Rajgir, in the Indian state of Bihar. These caves are historically and archaeologically significant, dating back to the Mauryan period, which spanned from the 4th to the 2nd century BCE. The caves are carved into a single massive rock and are known for their simple yet elegant architecture. They consist of two chambers, an antechamber, and a main chamber. What makes these caves particularly interesting is the presence of inscriptions in Brahmi script.
Swarna Bhandar is also known as Son Bhandar caves are a set of two artificial caves engraved out of an individual massive rock. It is one of the best places to visit in Rajgir as the main cave was constructed during the Mauryan Empire and has a votive Jain stele inside.
